About City of Mission, Kansas

At first glance, Mission is a charming small town, providing easy access to Kansas City and its suburbs. But take a closer look, and you’ll see Mission is so much more. Mission is truly a Community for All Ages that, by design, attracts people regardless of whether they’re starting a career or winding it down, raising a family or emptying their nest. Valuing inclusivity and diversity, we welcome all people. We celebrate the connectivity that comes with knowing your neighbors, your local leaders and the people with whom you do business. Supportive and safe, Mission is a walkable city with an eclectic mix of local merchants, convenient recreation facilities, neighborhood parks, bike paths and trails. Mission is where the heart of Johnson County intersects with the cool of Kansas City. More small town than suburb, we’re proud without being pretentious, progressive yet rooted in our history, growing but steadfast in our commitment to evolve in ways that are best for our people and our environment. Incorporated as a city in 1951, and true to our mid-century roots, we’re a no-frills, form-follows-function community, blending traditional values with the avant-garde and bringing together a multitude of people and perspectives to shape the future. We don’t like to brag, but if you ask, we’ll happily let you in on our secret: Mission has something for everyone.
