About Climate Resilience in Kosovo Water Sector
Climate Resilience in the Water Sector of Kosovo (CRWSK) is a SECO-financed project implemented by EBP (Switzerland) and KIWER (Kosovo). The project works with Regional Water Companies, ministries, regulators, and professional associations to strengthen the climate resilience of Kosovo’s water sector by tackling systemic challenges in Non-Revenue Water (NRW), Energy Efficiency (EE), and Renewable Energy (RE). 💧 Our mission is to ensure that water utilities and institutions are better equipped to adapt to climate change, safeguard scarce resources, and deliver sustainable services. By reducing water losses, improving energy efficiency, and integrating renewable energy, CRWSK helps utilities enhance operational and financial performance while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. ⚡ Key activities include technical and financial assessments of all Regional Water Companies, development of water balance and energy audits, creation of NRW and EE/RE strategies, and piloting quick-win investments in pumping station optimization, smart metering, and renewable energy solutions. The project also introduces a Performance-Based Subsidy Scheme (PBSS), linking financial support to measurable improvements through robust KPIs. 🤝 Partners and stakeholders include the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Environment, the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund (KEEF), professional associations such as SHUKOS and the Young Water Professionals, and the donor community. CRWSK builds capacity through training, tandem approaches, and awareness campaigns, ensuring that improvements are sustainable and widely adopted across the sector. ✅ Expected impact: resilient and efficient utilities, reduced water losses, lower energy costs, enhanced financial sustainability, and a modernized institutional framework aligned with international best practices.
