About Commonwealth Legal Education Association

The Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) is dedicated to advancing and upholding exemplary standards of legal education across the Commonwealth. Established in 1971, CLEA operates as a globally inclusive organization with regional Chapters and Committees spanning Asia, Southern Africa, West Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe. At CLEA, our paramount goal is to imbue legal education with societal pertinence and professional utility. We pursue this objective through diverse avenues, including the enhancement of law curricula and pedagogical methodologies. By remaining at the vanguard of educational progress, we aid law institutions in preparing for the evolving demands of the legal sphere amidst the information revolution and other global dynamics. Moreover, CLEA is steadfast in its support for continuous legal education and remote learning initiatives. We uphold the significance of continually equipping legal practitioners with opportunities to augment their expertise and competencies, regardless of their geographical constraints. Through the promotion of distance learning ventures, our aim is to ensure the accessibility of legal education to individuals encountering impediments to conventional learning modalities. While our overarching mission pertains to legal jurisdictions worldwide, CLEA places particular emphasis on nations within the Commonwealth, legal frameworks rooted in the Anglo-American tradition, or the Common law. We acknowledge the distinct challenges and opportunities characteristic of these jurisdictions, tailoring our endeavors to address their specific requisites.
