About Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS)

CIOMS advances public health policy and research through development of global guidance in challenging areas of medical science, with a focus on bioethics, medical product development and safety. CIOMS guidance documents are drafted by specially-constituted working groups of experts. Its review process includes public consultation to help ensure that the guidance will be widely applicable. Recent guidance covers real-world data and evidence, good governance practice for research institutions, and patient involvement in the development, regulation and safe use of medicines. Guidance currently under development includes guidance on artificial intelligence in pharmacovigilance, and benefit–risk balance for medicinal products. CIOMS is in official relations with WHO and is an associate partner of UNESCO.
