About Council of Law Reporting for New South Wales

The Council of Law Reporting for NSW is a statutory body chiefly responsible for the publication of the NSW Law Reports (NSWLR). The NSWLR are the authorised report series for the superior courts of NSW and have been the record of precedent in the State since 1970. The Council was established under the Council of Law Reporting Act 1969 (NSW) and consists of the Attorney General, the Solicitor General, the President of the NSW Bar Association, the President of the Law Society of NSW and seven members of the legal profession appointed by the Governor (five barristers nominated by the NSW Bar Association and two solicitors nominated by the Law Society). The Council's main publication - the NSW Law Reports series - is edited by a small and illustrious team of leading Sydney barristers lead by Perry Herzfeld SC and supported by the contributions of a select panel of reporters or head noters who are also practicing barristers and solicitors. The Council also employs a small team of inhouse publishing operations and support staff at its Sydney CBD office.
