About Craft School South Africa
Craft School South Africa (registered as Cape Craft School NPC and Cape Craft School South Africa (Pty) Ltd) will address the vocational skills gap by providing an educational platform for young people (aged 16 – 25) to explore, learn, and thrive in the artisanal craft industry and close the circle by establishing a new manufacturing base. The tuition is fully funded, and the school is non-fee paying. An endowment will be raised to cover the tuition of successful applicants. The vision over the next 10 years is to open 12-15 schools across all provinces in the country basing them in underserved communities. As schools open across the country, with one school per year over the next five years, Craft School South Africa will serve as a place for creativity, craftsmanship and innovation; preparing students for careers in various artisanal fields while promoting economic sustainability, cultural heritage, and personal empowerment reaching deeply into South African undeserved communities. Economically disadvantaged creative youth have few further creative opportunities. Craft School South Africa provides applicable skills and crafts that when implemented in enterprise and employment will discourage the breakdown of community, enabling contributions to their society in both a monetary and meaningful way.
