About Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Nepal

The major responsibility of this department is to collect, process, store, and disseminate hydrological and meteorological data, as well as to provide flood and weather forecasts. The Government of Nepal initiated hydrological and meteorological activities in an organized manner in 1962. Initially, these activities were operated as a section under the Department of Electricity. Later, the section was transferred to the Department of Irrigation, and finally, in 1988, it was upgraded to a department.
