About Doctors Medical Aid Foundation

The Doctors Medical Aid Foundation (DMAF) is a national, non-profit health and humanitarian organisation established as an initiative of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA). At DMAF, we are committed to advancing equitable access to quality healthcare for all Nigerians especially those most often left behind. DMAF harnesses the collective expertise, reach, and ethical grounding of Nigeria’s medical community to deliver life-saving interventions, strengthen health systems, and influence policies that shape better health outcomes at scale. Anchored in medical professionalism and driven by a rights-based approach, the Foundation works across the humanitarian–development–policy continuum to address urgent health needs while building resilient systems for the future. Guided by the vision of Healthier Lives for More Nigerians, DMAF operates through six core pillars: i) humanitarian health response; ii) health systems strengthening; iii) advocacy; iv) policy development and implementation; v) social and behaviour change communication; and vii) health research and knowledge management. Through rapid emergency response, support to vulnerable populations, frontline service delivery, and evidence-based policy engagement, DMAF ensures that care reaches communities where geography, poverty, conflict, or exclusion would otherwise deny access. DMAF’s unique strength lies in its dual identity: structurally linked to the Nigerian Medical Association with access to doctors in every state and the FCT, yet governed independently with robust accountability, safeguarding, and donor-compliant systems. This positioning enables rapid mobilisation in crises, credible engagement with government and partners, and sustained impact beyond short-term interventions.
