About Downtown Eastside Community Land Trust Association
The Downtown Eastside Community Land Trust Association (DECLT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting property from the private market and using it for community benefit. Our objective is to provide affordable housing and community spaces through a community land trust model. This model allows a community-elected board, with a majority of Directors who live or work in the area, to steward local properties with the goal of maximizing neighbourhood prosperity rather than profit. This effort is culturally-inclusive and is co-led by Indigenous and Japanese Canadian organizations in close partnership with the Downtown Eastside SRO Collaborative Society, with a shared goal of decolonizing community development and creating a more equitable Downtown Eastside.
