About DSLV Federal Association for Freight Forwarding and Logistics Germany
As the leading national association, the DSLV represents the cross-modal interests of 2,500 prominent German freight forwarding and logistics companies through its 15 regional associations. These companies employ a total of 600,000 people and generate an annual industry turnover of €123 billion, making them a cornerstone of Germany’s third-largest industry (as of October 2025). The DSLV’s membership spans a diverse range, from globally operating logistics enterprises, 4PL and 3PL providers, to owner-managed freight forwarding firms (SMEs) with their own fleets, as well as charterers of inland waterways and rail transport, and specialists in sea freight, air freight, customs services, and warehousing. Freight forwarding companies play a vital role in facilitating and strengthening the integration of all transport modes. The DSLV’s policies are therefore shaped by the freight forwarder’s critical function in coordinating and managing cross-modal transport operations. The DSLV serves as the political voice and primary point of contact for the German Federal Government, the Bundestag, the Bundesrat, and all relevant federal ministries and authorities in the legislative and regulatory processes affecting logistics and freight transport. The DSLV acts as an advisor and service provider to its member companies. As employer associations and social partners, the DSLV’s regional associations represent the industry in regional collective bargaining matters. The DSLV is a member of the European Association for Forwarding, Transport, Logistics, and Customs Services (CLECAT) in Brussels, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) in Geneva, and an associate member of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) in Geneva. Through these international networks, the DSLV influences the development of EU legislation in Brussels and Strasbourg, as well as international agreements under the UN, WTO, WCO, and other bodies.
