About East Dunbartonshire Football Club

East Dunbartonshire Football Club was founded in Spring 2002 by Oliver Penman, Andy Bonar, Gus Grubb, Gordon Moore and Kenny Robertson. In that first year, we had 7 a-side teams at under 7s, 8s, 9s, & 10s and an 11-aside team at under 11s. An Academy was also set up to bring 5-7 year olds into the club. The founders set up a committee and within the first constitution they agreed that “no child would be turned away on account of ability”. All players would get playing time irrespective of ability, up until the second year of competitive football at under 13s. Further teams would be set up where possible to give the maximum number of children the opportunity to play football. Since the clubʼs formation in 2002, the club has gone from strength to strength with age groups starting from the 4-6 year olds in our Academy right through to U17s. We are proud to be a quality mark community club, currently providing football to over 220 young people. Since 2016, we have benefited from the use of Loretto Football Pitches thanks to our ongoing partnership with St Mungoʼs AFC. This has given our older players the opportunity to progress into amateur football, through St Mungoʼs U19 and U23 teams. This brings us to the present, where 22 years on we continue the original ethos of the club. We do not turn away anyone based on their ability at EDFC and we coach with the principles of developing the young players we have through encouragement and support. All teams have a group of vounteer coaches who, alongside their own personal employment, commit the time for organising and attending training sessions and matches alongside requirements for training such as procurement of their PVG's for working with children, First Aid Qualifications and SFA Courses such as Mental Health in Scottish Football, Understanding Childrens Rights in Scottish Football and various coaching certification. Above all, we strive as a club to #Letthemplay and remain open to all.
