About Energy Transition Africa
Energy Transition Africa (ETA) is an independent, Africa-led knowledge and media platform strengthening the human, institutional, and policy foundations of the continent's clean energy transition. While energy transitions are often framed as technical, financial, or infrastructure challenges, ETA addresses a deeper structural gap: the persistent weakness of knowledge systems, analytical capacity, and institutional capacity across much of the continent. Without strong human and institutional foundations, physical infrastructure cannot deliver lasting transformation. We produce in-depth editorial analysis, policy intelligence, and data-grounded research across Africa's most consequential energy questions, from fossil fuel phase-out and electricity affordability to critical minerals governance, climate finance, and utility reform. Our work is grounded in a conviction that Africa must own the analysis of its own energy future. Beyond publishing, ETA builds the people and institutions the transition needs. Through the Transition Makers Fellowship, applied skills training, high-level policy dialogues, and strategic convenings, we are developing a pan-African pipeline of energy practitioners capable of translating ambition into execution. ETA works with foundations, universities, civil society organisations, and private sector actors committed to Africa's energy future.
