About Engineering Golfing Society

Founded in 1907 by the Presidents of the Inst. of Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers, the Engineering Golfing Society has a proud tradition of uniting professional engineers who share a passion for golf. For over a century, our Society has served as a convivial meeting point where engineering excellence and the love of the game converge, fostering a network built on camaraderie, professional respect, and a shared commitment to innovation. Our rich history—documented from that inaugural Westminster meeting—includes notable figures such as Sir Alexander Kennedy FRS and Sir Robert Hadfield, whose leadership laid the foundation for many of Britain’s most significant infrastructural achievements. The names inscribed on our cherished trophies speak to a legacy of engineering ingenuity, from the early Tube system and iconic bridges to transformative public works across the Commonwealth. Beyond professional networking, our Society thrives on spirited competition and the enduring traditions of the game. Meetings held at prestigious courses throughout Britain provide the perfect setting for forging lifelong connections and advancing shared engineering interests. Our membership is open to all Chartered Engineers who are also members of a recognized golf club—with further opportunities extended to distinguished engineering graduates and exceptional candidates. Today, our diverse community spans a broad spectrum of specialties, from civil engineers to engineers working in the NHS. We invite passionate, forward-thinking engineers to join us and contribute to a tradition where the excellence of professional practice meets the pure joy of golf. We especially welcome and encourage the participation of lady members. Whether you’re interested in robust professional debates, historical landmarks in engineering, or simply enjoy a round of golf in congenial surroundings, the Engineering Golfing Society offers an exceptional platform for personal and professional enrichment.
