About Free Country 99.9 WFRE

Free Country 99.9 WFRE is a radio station located in Frederick, Maryland, in the United States. It plays Country music and is owned by the Aloha Trust, LLC. along with its sister station 930 WFMD. Despite the station being located approximately 45 miles (72 kilometers) away from the two closest major cities (Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C.), its strong signal (7,600 watts) reaches both major markets. The WFRE call sign can mean either "Free Country" which is WFRE's branding or "Free State", which is one of the state's nicknames because Maryland never passed a prohibition enforcement act in the 1920s.
