About Free Market Institute

The Instituto Livre Mercado (ILIM - Free Market Institute) is an independent, non-partisan, and non-profit Brazilian organization dedicated to promoting economic freedom and competition in the country. With a broad profile, ILIM brings together companies from various sectors, such as financial institutions (banks and fintechs), digital platforms, and a variety of industrial segments (construction, oil and gas, biofuels, tobacco, among others). It also enjoys the active participation of associations, business federations, and employers' unions. This diversity reflects the Institute's commitment to pluralism of ideas, welcoming entities from different ideological spectrums, whether progressive or conservative, as long as they are aligned with the principles of economic freedom. Originally founded to serve as the executive secretariat of the Parliamentary Front for Free Markets – currently composed of 187 Federal Deputies and 28 Senators – ILIM has expanded its operations and now plays a key role in connecting the private sector, the government, and civil society. The central objective is to contribute to the construction of a more competitive, innovative, and dynamic business environment in Brazil. To this end, ILIM has a specialized technical team working across the Three Branches of Government, which is active in: → Developing studies, opinions, and reports: The Institute conducts research on competition, regulation, and the business environment. → Monitoring bills: It monitors legislative proposals that may affect free enterprise, providing input for the improvement of public policies. → Institutional relations: It maintains dialogue with ministries, regulatory agencies, members of Congress, members of the Judiciary, and civil society, aiming to reduce barriers to the entry of new businesses. → Organizing events and debates: It promotes meetings, seminars, and public hearings to disseminate concepts of economic freedom, competition, and innovation.
