About Fuego del Sol Haiti / FdS Haiti

Based in Anse-a-Pitres, Haiti, Fuego del Sol Haiti SA (FdS) is a social-eco enterprise with a principal mission of mitigating deforestation, sequestering carbon emissions, and more recently, recycling plastic waste in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Co-founded in 2005 by Haitian/Dominican, Frantz Fanfan, and American, Kevin Adair, FdS has expanded from the production of commercial, ultra-efficient cookstoves to a multitude of ecological operations, including nurseries and access to fresh water in the Caribbean islands. FdS aims to serve as a conduit for community-led social and ecological development. Guided by the philosophy “listen, lead, listen again,” FdS works in congruence with Haitian and Dominican people to empower their communities. Our latest projects include implementing a recycling center and ecological factory in the community of Anse-a-Pitre, Haiti, located about 1km of the border crossing into the Dominican Republic (DR). The FdS facilities will focus on plastic recycling, ecological stove assembly, vocational training, an indigenous plant nursery, and agrovoltaic power generation. Since 2012, the FdS Haiti waste-to-energy project has produced the largest volume of sustainable biomass fuel briquettes in Haiti from the abundant source-fuel materials of recycled paper, cardboard, sawdust, and agricultural waste. FdS produces ultra-efficient TLUD gasification stoves for household and institutional cooking purposes. These stoves provide a cleaner burning alternative to the traditional charcoal stove that is used in most households, which leads to higher indoor air quality for the user. FdS is expanding current production and adding ecological industrial stove/heating applications, including for aluminum smelting, and producing recycled plastic products.
