About Fundación Para La Tierra

Para La Tierra is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to protecting Paraguay’s fragile habitats and endangered wildlife. As the only year-round scientific field station in the country, our researchers are working at pace to understand and preserve its unique biodiversity. With the second highest deforestation rate in Latin America, Paraguay’s predicted to be the first country in the world to lose all of its moist forests by 2028. In collaboration with local and indigenous communities, our reforestation programme targets the restoration of critical habitat for the vulnerable hooded capuchin monkey, whilst creating sustainable income opportunities for some of the country’s most marginalised people. In 2018, Paraguay ranked 136th out of 137 countries for the quality of its science education. Through our supplementary curriculum, Voces de la Naturaleza, we’re nurturing a new generation of eco-conscious leaders by enhancing their climate literacy. Through our weekly eco-club and our participatory nature-based lessons in schools, we’re empowering children across the country to create a greener, wilder future. This vital work is funded by our award-winning volunteer and intern programme, providing students with the opportunity to design and conduct their own independent research projects. Hosting over 400 early-career scientists from all over the world, former interns have gone on to pursue Masters and PhD studies, and gained employment with governments, zoos, and other research stations, contributing to conservation efforts in South America and beyond. #togetherparalatierra
