About Fusion Magazine - Kent State University
When Fusion was founded, in 2003, marriage equality was not yet legal anywhere in the United States and laws against consensual sex between gay men were overturned that year. LGBTQ rights have significantly advanced since trans women, drag queens and street kids fought back against police violence in 1959. But the community, particularly trans people and people of color, still faces substantial adversity. Journalism and storytelling help humanize the community and its struggle. By publicizing their perspectives and experiences, Fusion helps demonstrate why LGBTQ people need an equal place in society.
