About GeQD - Germanium Quantum Detectors
Germanium Quantum Detector Technologies (GeQD) delivers precision on the quantum edge by designing, developing and providing high-efficiency single-photon detection, engineered for scalability. When individual photons must be detected reliably, GeQD delivers a germanium-based SPAD technology that combines state-of-the-art detection efficiency with the cost advantages of CMOS-compatible manufacturing. This unique combination allows GeQD to: Outperform silicon SPADs in the extended wavelength range, and Undercut InGaAs detectors by a wide margin on cost, while remaining scalable and integration-ready. The result is a technology platform that bridges the long-standing gap between performance and manufacturability in single-photon detection. GeQD is a spin-off of the Institute of Semiconductor Engineering at the University of Stuttgart. Originating from long-term academic research, GeQD has been supported by the German federal EXIST Forschungstransfer program (03EFBW0326) with over €1 million in funding to bring germanium-based single-photon detectors from lab to market.
