About Girls in Civil

Girls in Civil (GIC) started in the Civil Engineering and Surveying Department at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez Campus. In December 2019, we made it official with our first meeting. And after that, we have been growing to reach more people on and off of the campus. In March 2020, we adapted to the Covid 19 world pandemic, and GIC became an online platform open to anyone interested in construction, and thus creating a global support system. Girls in Civil (GIC) is a feminist organization made up of girls, women, and people interested in everything related to Construction and Civil Engineering. We aspire to help reduce the gender gap, increase academic retention in civil engineering and related undergraduate programs, and promote equity and diversity in civil works. As a group, we believe we can empower each other and contribute to the professional development of women in the field. Whether it's engineering, education, construction, or other general industry topics, we are here to be a part of the construction world and make it more inclusive and accessible to minorities.
