About Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS)
The Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) is a platform to facilitate the development and empower the dissemination of knowledge on sanitation through postgraduate (MSc) programs, online (self-study and instructor-led) courses, face-to-face (on-campus) courses and tailor-made training, so that the sanitation challenges can be embraced with deeper insight, advanced knowledge, and greater confidence. In partnership with the Gates Foundation, IHE Delft Institute for Water Education launched in 2018 a new Master of Science Program in Sanitation, Graduate Professional Diploma Program, and several online courses on sanitation. Since 2019, the Delft-based sanitation programs and courses have been adopted by universities in Asia, Africa, and Latin America under the framework of the GSGS. In 2024, with its 55 members - academic institutions, located in 22 countries, and 1,400 MSc students from 58 countries, the GSGS reached the next level of development - clustering into six regional hubs, namely, 1. GSGS Regional Hub South America, 2. GSGS Regional Hub West, Central, and Indian Ocean Africa, 3. GSGS Regional Hub East and Southern Africa, 4. GSGS Regional Hub India, 5. GSGS Regional Hub South and South-East Asia, and GSGS Regional HUb East Asia. The regional hubs are hosted by GSGS partners in Montevideo (UTEC), Ouagadougou (2iE), Kampala (NWSC), Ahmedabad (CEPT), and Bangkok (AIT), respectively. The main focus of the regional hubs is to update the current sanitation curriculum with the latest learnings on city-wide inclusive sanitation (CWIS), expand the geographical coverage of its membership, diversify its membership to enhance the impact on the ground, and ensure financial sustainability in mid-and long-term. The new GSGS website, reflecting this development, is under construction.
