About Global Science & Trade (Before now Human Rights & Science)
Global Science & Trade (GS&T) builds knowledge-driven partnerships between Sweden and Sub-Saharan Africa that turn research and expertise into measurable results. Long-term cooperation should be based on science, competence, entrepreneurship, and mutually beneficial exchange, rather than charity. GS&T convenes and manages collaboration between academia, industry, researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, aligning incentives so partnerships deliver real value for all parties. Our work is delivered through three integrated service areas: - Win-win partnership management through ROPE (Real-time Outcome Planning & Evaluation), ROPE X guided knowledge exchange, and the locally governed RISE Alliance implementation network. - Research–industry partnerships that translate industry challenges into applied R&D via CREMA and PRISMA, spanning domains such as water remediation, natural products, mineral processing and battery materials, circular chemistry, agricultural chemistry, and green hydrogen. - Innovation and entrepreneurship support that helps teams move from knowledge to investment-ready ventures jobs, and stronger local ecosystems. We start by defining partners’ Ambitions and Outcome Challenges then use the ROPE framework to align investments, expected returns, and acceptable risks, and to execute through milestones, operational sprints, and learning loops. Today GS&T connects 100+ researchers and technicians, 40 academic institutions, 500 micro and small scale businesses, and partners across 20 countries, linking scientific progress and innovation to entrepreneurship, trade, and commercial opportunity.
