About Golay Fils & Stahl

Golay Fils & Stahl has been at the heart of the fine jewellery and gemstone world for nearly two centuries. Founded in 1837 in Geneva by Auguste Golay Leresche, the company changed ownership at the turn of the 20th century when it was acquired by Mr. Stahl. In 1961, it was further strengthened by Jacques Wolfgang, a long-time business associate who had supplied the firm with exceptional gemstones since the 1930s. From 1860 to 1930, Golay Fils & Stahl flourished during an era of opulence, offering exclusive creations to an elite international clientele. With locations in Geneva and Paris, the firm became known for its exceptional craftsmanship and was named the official jeweller to the Royal Family of Romania. King Carol I of Romania was a loyal patron, visiting the Geneva shop regularly from 1896 onward. Archival records also document notable clients, including Prince Damrong of Siam and the Maharajah of Baroda, reinforcing the firm’s legacy as a trusted jeweller to royalty and collectors alike. Following the passing of Jacques Wolfgang in 1976, his son Jesse Wolfgang took over the business, continuing to uphold its reputation for exceptional gemstones, fine jewellery, and unparalleled expertise. Under his leadership, Golay Fils & Stahl transitioned from a retail establishment to focusing exclusively on bespoke jewellery creation, as well as buying and selling diamonds, coloured stones, and exceptional vintage, antique, and signed jewels. Today, under the direction of Melissa Wolfgang Amenc, Golay Fils & Stahl continues to evolve, blending its deep-rooted heritage with a modern perspective. As a sixth-generation gem and jewellery expert, Melissa specialises in bespoke creations and precious stones, working with private collectors and industry professionals worldwide to source, curate, and create exceptional pieces.
