About Growing Resilience in Teens (GRIT)

Growing Resilience in Teens (GRIT) is a registered charity based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, focused on improving the mental health, wellbeing, and life skills of young people aged 11 to 24 through group programmes, workshops, and 1:1 coaching. We support young people from Hitchin, Letchworth, and surrounding areas. Central to our work is the unique ‘Four Corners Method,’ combining non-contact boxing, boxing metaphor, and health and wellbeing coaching to build resilience, emotional strength, and self-esteem, helping young people turn adversity into growth. The Four Corners Method focuses on four key areas of development using a boxing ring framework: -Doctors' Corner: Focuses on the physical self, helping young people understand how their body reacts and how to master their emotions. -Referees' Corner: Represents rules and values, guiding young people to feel emotionally and physically safe and make informed life choices. -Opposition Corner: Addresses challenges and adversity, empowering young people to learn from these experiences. -Home Corner: Explores relationships with self and others, creating a safe and supportive environment. GRIT’s approach supports positive change in education, relationships, and personal development. By helping young people navigate the challenges of adolescence, GRIT builds a strong foundation for adulthood, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives true to their authentic selves. GRIT offers two main services: 1:1 Coaching and Group Programmes (the GRIT Programme and the Rumble), all integrating the Four Corners Method. 1:1 Coaching provides personalised support with a qualified coach, offering a safe space to discuss important issues. The GRIT Programme is a 12-week course combining non-contact boxing with embodied coaching, promoting teamwork, peer support, and emotional resilience. The Rumble is a 6-week version of the GRIT Programme delivered in schools, helping participants develop life skills in a supportive environment.
