About Guernsey Sports Commission
The Guernsey Sports Commission [GSC] is a charitable organisation set up in 2004 to promote physical activity and sport in Guernsey, Channel Islands. The GSC runs a number of programmes throughout the year which offer people of all ages the opportunity to participate in different activities. These include our On Your Marks holiday programme, our Street Sports sessions and weekly opportunities for people with disabilities or long term health conditions to enjoy and participate in sport. We employ specialist PE and Sport Development Officers who work in primary schools helping to provide a positive and inclusive experience of PE and sport. These staff work with teachers to develop their understanding and knowledge of Fundamental Movement Skills and Sport. They also run lunchtime and after school sports clubs and signpost sporting activities outside of school highlighting the support available from the Sports Commission if cost is a barrier to participation. We operate a quality assurance scheme for sports clubs and organisations on the Island known as SportsMark. Sports who achieve the accreditation have provided evidence of appropriate safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures, have qualified coaches and are well-run organisations. We also providing funding for off-island competitions and training through our Sport Development Fund and support a number of Sport Specific Development Officers working in Guernsey.
