About Harvard-MIT Impact Research Initiative

IRI is an intensive 8-week program that helps talented students take the first steps toward a high-impact research career by working in small teams to explore research questions in our core focus areas—AI governance, technical AI safety, and biosecurity—while building the skills and connections needed to bring about impact. Projects focus deliberately on cause areas that address the world’s most pressing challenges, and students benefit from mentorship by Ivy League-educated graduates who have gone on to work in top organizations across the Boston area, such as the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and the Cambridge Boston Alignment Initiative, to tackle real-world challenges in policy, technology, medicine, and beyond.
