About HATIMA YETU INITIATIVE

Hatima Yetu Initiative is a women-led, grassroots organization dedicated to empowering adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) to thrive in safe, equitable, and resilient communities across Turkana and Kajiado Counties, Kenya. Founded in 2006—originally known as Voice in the Wilderness—Hatima Yetu (“Our Destiny”) was born from a collective vision of women educators and community leaders who believed that every girl deserves the right to education, safety, and dignity. Today, we stand as a growing movement transforming lives through education, gender equality, and sustainable livelihoods. Our programs integrate education, child safeguarding, gender-responsive pedagogy, agronutrition, and social empowerment, fostering opportunities for girls and women to learn, lead, and lift their communities. We work hand-in-hand with schools, local leaders, and government partners to address barriers such as early marriage, gender-based violence, and poverty. Driven by innovation and collaboration, we are building a future where every girl and woman can shape her own destiny—educated, secure, and economically independent. Mission: To nurture the potential of girls and women through education, gender-responsive approaches, agronutrition, and social empowerment programs that foster equality, resilience, and sustainable change. Vision: A society where every girl and woman is educated, secure, and economically independent—able to live with dignity and contribute meaningfully to her community’s transformation. Focus Areas: Girls’ Education & Retention Child Safeguarding & Participation Gender Equality & GBV Prevention Agronutrition & Climate-Resilient Livelihoods Youth Empowerment & Leadership
