About Heart of Dinner 愛心餐

Heart of Dinner is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that addresses food insecurity, social isolation, and loneliness among Asian American older adults living in under-resourced and underinvested communities. Every Wednesday, we home-deliver hand-decorated care packages to over 800 Elders across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and The Bronx. Each package includes about three days of culturally thoughtful meals and fresh produce purchased from hyperlocal independent restaurants, markets, and farms. Tucked inside is a handwritten love note in the Elder's native language, written by volunteers around the world in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, and more. Many Elders save these notes and read them throughout the week whenever they feel lonely. The bags themselves are decorated by hand with bright illustrations, and Elders often display them in their homes as reminders that they are seen and loved. What began in April 2020 with co-founders Yin Chang and Moonlynn Tsai cooking meals and writing love notes in their small NYC apartment has grown into a weekly operation that has home-delivered nearly 250,000 care packages since its founding. When crises arise, we extend the same care through emergency relief, including support for Elders displaced by the 2025 LA wildfires and Elder tenants in Chinatown who suddenly lost SNAP benefits. Every decision we make starts with a simple question: What would our own grandparents love? Learn more and get involved at heartofdinner.org
