By combining targeted R&D efforts with operational insight, Hias has developed the patented Hias Process for biological nutrient removal. The process delivers superior nutrient removal with low OPEX and favourable carbon footprint. The highly sustainable Hias Process also eliminates or minimizes the use of precipitation chemicals, hence more than 95% of the total phosphorus can be recycled. The Hias process is demonstrated through several pilot studies and is currently operational at full scale (192 000 PE) at Hias IKS, Norway.
