About Highfield Park Trust

Access to quality green space is shrinking and with it opportunities for people to connect, play and unwind. Highfield Park Trust was established in response to the growing recognition that access to high-quality natural spaces is essential for wellbeing and strong communities. Following the closure of Hill End and Cell Barnes Hospitals, there was a real risk that this significant green space, and the history that surrounds it, could be lost or fragmented, rather than protected as a long-term asset for local people. As an independent charity, Highfield Park Trust is responsible for the stewardship of Highfield Park, an 82-acre parkland in St Albans. We manage and protect the site while supporting activities that promote wellbeing, education, volunteering and community engagement. We also work with corporate and public-sector partners to deliver venue hire, events and initiatives that bring people together and support environmental sustainability. Today, Highfield Park is a much-loved, high-quality green space offering something for everyone at no cost to the taxpayer. We welcome conversations with partners who share our ambition to ensure the park continues to thrive for generations to come. All income generated is reinvested into maintaining and enhancing the park, creating lasting benefits for local people and the natural environment.
