About Hood River New School

Hood River New School Mission: Empowering middle school students with the skills they need to become resourceful learners, preparing them to take on future challenges. In a responsive and caring environment, students mature into confident, compassionate citizens inspired to meaningfully contribute to their community. Our Core Values We believe adolescence is a critical, finite window of cognitive, academic, social, and emotional growth that occurs during the transition from childhood and adulthood. We believe this growth period is worthy of recognition, protection, and honor. We believe all students learn best when they feel safe, loved, respected, and honored for who they are as individuals. We believe in a student’s power and capacity to learn and grow. We believe in student-centered learning — putting students in the driver’s seat as they learn to question, research, and ultimately cultivate a love of learning. We believe in the power of laughter and that “choice” creates responsible behavior and genuinely inspired learning. We believe that embracing challenges and learning from mistakes builds resilience and confidence. We believe that the integration of knowledge, information, and curricular activities reflects the real-world integration of society, technology, and the natural world and encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning and progress. We believe in challenging students to think outside the box and to think for themselves.
