About Hummingbird Theatre Company

Hummingbird Theatre Company (HTC) 📍 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Founded in 2015 and relaunched in 2022, Hummingbird Theatre Company (HTC) is an independent theatre company based in Brisbane, dedicated to delivering high-quality, 'old-world' live entertainment. From bold burlesque cabarets to straight plays, HTC blends traditional theatre values with a modern, community-focused approach. Our mission is to create professional, locally-driven productions that honour classic theatrical traditions while fostering a supportive and empowering environment for performers. We believe in nurturing the creative strengths of Brisbane’s talented artists—on stage and beyond. HTC typically produces 2–3 live shows annually, showcasing everything from vaudeville-style performances to classic play texts, all featuring local actors, musicians, and creatives. Beyond the stage, HTC actively engages with the community through free digital programming, including:
🎭 Monologue Mondays – a platform for emerging Brisbane actors to share their work.
📖 Poetry Month – celebrating the power of poetry through curated performances by local poets and voiceover artists.
💛 Philanthropic initiatives, such as our annual Christmas Foodbank drive and special fundraising performances in support of local charities like the Cancer Council. Our vision is to become a lasting fixture in Brisbane’s vibrant arts scene, expanding our reach through live productions while exploring future opportunities in the education/workshop sector. Led by founder, CEO & Artistic Director Rhys Becks, HTC continues to evolve, with a passion for storytelling, a commitment to quality, and a heart for community at its core. 🔗 Follow us to stay updated on upcoming shows, online events, and how we're making a difference through the arts in Brisbane.
