About HYCIDE

HYCIDE is a media outlet dedicated to telling stories of survival and freedom founded by photojournalist and filmmaker Akintola Hanif in 2011. Originally launched as HYCIDE magazine with the intention of highlighting subculture, art, and conflict, HYCIDE is an exploration into the minds and hearts of the marginalized and misunderstood. Featuring cutting-edge stories and art that is insightful, intimate, and intricate, as well as programming that promotes wellness and economic mobility offered at HYCIDE XPANSE [arts axis], HYCIDE aims to ensure that art is not disconnected from community but folds directly back into it The end goal: creating empathy and understanding, and hopefully, becoming a catalyst for action in the form of community care, increased opportunities, and shared resources. HYCIDE explores the roles we create for ourselves and those created for us, challenging the status quo while bearing witness to the feared, neglected, and misunderstood.
