About IDEA: Institute for Democratic Education in America

IDEA is a nonprofit organization based in Jackson, Mississippi. We collaborate with students, educators, families, and communities to advocate and build capacity for education equity and justice. Our work in Jackson includes the Parent Leadership Institute (100+ community leaders trained), the Community Schools Chronicle, and an official Community Schools partnership with Jackson Public Schools at Jackson's flagship Community School, Lanier Jr./Sr. High School. We also partner with communities across the United States and in Puerto Rico. IDEA was founded in 2010 by educators, parents, and organizers who believed that the best way to effect lasting change is to raise up the voices of the people closest to it: youth, families, and community leaders.
