About ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week

Founded in 2016, ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week is a summer composition and electronic music academy taking place in Città di Castello, Italy. It is a new music collaborate initiative between Italian ensemble Suono Giallo and Greek composer Theocharis Papatrechas, celebrating excellence in composition, performance practices and computer music. ilSUONO's core mission is to diversify the practice, and, thus, it brings together young music creators of diverse backgrounds, educational profiles, ethnicities, aesthetical orientations to learn, share, create, and collaborate alongside important figures in the field. We are excited to have invited exceptional senior composers such as Chaya Czernowin, Rand Steiger, Franck Bedrossian, Carola Bauckholt, Philippe Leroux, Yan Maresz, Georgia Spiropoulos, Francesco Filidei, Nicolas Tzortzis. Stellar performers we have had the pleasure to work with include the ensembles Schallfeld, Lemniscate, and Via Nova. We have had participating composers representing up to 37 countries. We are immensely proud of our participants having left our academy with such inspiration and having developed their craft, they keep on flourishing in their careers, continuing their endeavors at leading institutions such as Harvard, IRCAM, UC Berkeley, McGill, and Conservatoire de Paris. Our participants have spread the word about their experiences at ilSUONO with such satisfying quotes: “I love this festival! Great organization and amazing performers!”, “Open and healthy environment for discussion and exchange of ideas… very affordable tuition fees… very well organized in many details.”, “The strongest point for me was the human aspect. Everyone there was so kind and natural…”, “It was an extremely international group of composers. Everyone had such interesting backgrounds…”.
