About Indiana Council for the Social Studies

The Indiana Council for the Social Studies (ICSS) is a professional organization dedicated to supporting and advancing high-quality social studies education across Indiana. ICSS serves educators from elementary through higher education by providing meaningful professional development, instructional resources, and opportunities for collaboration and leadership. The council advocates for strong, research-based social studies standards and policies that promote civic knowledge, historical thinking, and informed citizenship. Through conferences, workshops, publications, partnerships, and statewide networks, ICSS works to amplify teacher voice, highlight best practices, and ensure that social studies remains a vital part of every student’s education in Indiana.
