About Indigenous Australian Lived Experience Centre

The Indigenous Australian Lived Experience Centre (IALEC) is First Nations-governed organisation, leading the way in embedding lived and living experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices of suicide into mental health, suicide prevention, and social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) initiatives across Australia. Originally established within the Black Dog Institute in 2018, IALEC (previously known as the Indigenous Lived Experience Centre/ILEC) became an independent organisation in October 2025 to strengthen its commitment to self-determination and culturally responsive systems change. We draw on the strength of First Nations knowledge systems, SEWB, and lived experience to influence national policy, guide service design, and advocate for community-led solutions that improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
