About Indus River Valley Institute (IRVI)

An architectural heritage preservation and cultural think tank with a concentration on capacity building and sustainable capacity development. We have over a decade's year of on-ground experience gained from 50+ heritage sites, ranging between the remote South East region of Nagarparkar and the Kalash Valley nestled amongst the Hindu Kush mountains in the North West of Pakistan. IRVI has a large database of both on and off-site heritage caretakers, artisans, craftsmen and experts with its extensive fieldwork experience. This leads to a deep knowledge of regional cultures, history and the region's relevance with the globe in an effort to promote both micro and macro sustainable economic development solutions. These solutions can be implemented utilizing the existing body of knowledge present in the communities surrounding heritage sites. By executing these solutions, we aim to promote historical and cultural awareness, sensitivity and tourism and economic growth, in these locales and the country at large. At IRVI we believe that precious architectural heritage sites are relevant not only to modern Pakistan but also through their ancestry of the Indus River connection to the Silk Route. This is a shared regional and colonial heritage from the UK to China and Africa.
