About Infraohjelma Helsinki
Funding has been secured for the first part of the infrastructure program, the Länsiratikat project, which includes the Vihdintie light rail, new tram lines in the western downtown area on Fredrikinkatu and Topeliuksenkatu, and related street investments. The project's development phase began in early 2025. The construction phase is scheduled to start in 2026, with operations commencing in 2031. Additionally, the program alliance includes options for two light rail lines, one to Länsisatama and the other from Viikki to Malmi. If the city decides to implement these, the construction phases would take place between 2027 and 2032. The program aims not only to build tram lines but also to promote broader and more responsible urban development, and to bring synergy benefits to the management of street and track work, reducing the visible inconveniences of construction for city residents.
