About Institute of Technical Chemistry (ITC) - University of Stuttgart

In the field of heterogeneous catalysis, we conduct both process-oriented and fundamental research on zeolites, supported metal catalysts, and redox-active oxides and oxide films. These are manufactured, characterized, and thoroughly tested at the ITC. In the field of chemical reaction engineering, we conduct process-oriented and fundamental scientific research on technical reaction control and reactor design, with a focus on heterogeneous catalysis, microreaction engineering, and electrochemical reaction engineering. (Link to the Klemm group). In the research area of molecular heterogeneous catalysis (MHC), we synthesize well-defined molecular catalysts that can be immobilized on support materials. This enables the investigation of structure-activity relationships in heterogeneous catalysis. In particular, we use MHC methods to investigate the origins of strong metal support interactions (SMSIs), interactions between catalytically active metals and the support material, in reactions such as CO2 reduction and Mars-van Krevelen oxidation.
