About International Center for Insurance Regulation (ICIR)
Regulators often seek practical, acceptable solutions that satisfy various stakeholders, whereas academics focus on identifying the "right" answers without necessarily considering the practical implications for the regulatory process. The ICIR, focusing on insurance regulation, has the potential to bridge this divide by fostering collaboration between regulators and academics, especially as the complexity of insurance regulation increases. Additionally, insurance is frequently misunderstood by the public, often viewed as overly technical or simply an investment product. The ICIR can help improve public understanding through conferences and dialogues that bring together industry experts, regulators, and academics. Situated at the House of Finance within Goethe University, the ICIR is also well-positioned to enhance education by attracting students to the study of insurance in an interdisciplinary context, while leveraging the presence of EIOPA in Frankfurt to offer training and development opportunities for both young academics and regulatory bodies.
