The ION Management Science Lab (IMSL) is dedicated to advancing impactful and rigorous research in strategic management to push the knowledge frontier for firms and institutions. IMSL conducts both basic and applied research on the evolution of firms in the 21st century, centered on three core pillars: digitalization, scientific decision-making, and collaborative organizational structures. Additionally, IMSL hosts conferences, workshops, and seminars, creating a rich exchange between business leaders and academia to build practical knowledge for decision-making in business. Key Knowledge Framework IMSL’s research and technologies are grounded in a unique knowledge framework that is rooted in the emerging paradigms of the scientific approach and theory-based view in strategic management. Flagship Projects: Scientific Decision-Making Survey: This project investigates best practices in managerial decision-making. It allows organizations to benchmark their decision-making processes, understand their decision-making styles, and identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. Platforms: IMSL develops innovative, AI-enhanced solutions and technologies to research and improve decision-making under uncertainty. These technologies include agentic AI systems for strategic decision-making, domain-specific language models to innovatively and efficiently measure decision-making processes, and agentic AI systems that leverage management research so that it is readily accessible and actionable for scholars and leaders.
