About IRDNC (Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation)
About Us: Established in 1982, we are one of Namibia's oldest conservation NGOs, and our mission has always been to secure a future where both people and wildlife can thrive. We operate on a core principle: conservation is only possible with community. We believe that communities that are economically secure are the strongest protectors of their environment. This conviction guides our work, as we address the root causes of human-wildlife conflict and build sustainable solutions from the ground up. How We Work: Our approach is centered on empowering rural communities to manage and benefit from their natural resources. We work directly with them to: - Create and support community-based conservancies: that give local people the authority and resources to protect their wildlife. - Find solutions for human-wildlife conflict: ensuring the safety of both people and iconic species like lions, elephants, and rhinos. - Develop sustainable livelihoods: by connecting communities to opportunities in tourism, garden projects, and the global market for natural products like Namibian myrrh. Our Impact The result of this community-first approach is transformative. By helping people build self-sufficient lives, we have seen a remarkable comeback for Namibia's wildlife populations. Our work proves that a shared future is possible—one where vibrant cultures and thriving ecosystems are not just coexisting, but mutually beneficial. We invite you to join us on this journey. Follow our page for updates on our projects, success stories from the field, and opportunities to partner with us in building a sustainable future for all.
