About Isabel and Balz Baechi Foundation
The Isabel and Balz Baechi Foundation is a Swiss-based private non-profit organization, active since 2002 in the conservation, restoration, and promotion of cultural heritage, with a focus on mural paintings, mosaics, and stuccoes of historical and artistic significance. Founded by Swiss painter Balz Baechi and his wife Isabel Pardo de Leygonier, the Foundation supports and promotes high-level conservation projects across Europe and internationally, in partnership with Public and Private Institutions, Museums, Universities, Superintendencies, Dioceses, and research centers. The Foundation adopts a rigorous, multidisciplinary, and sustainable approach that integrates art, science, and education to safeguard historical and cultural identity. Each year, it supports numerous prestigious projects, selected for their artistic merit, historical importance, and urgency of conservation. Supported projects include Rome’s Domus Aurea, the Sacro Monte of Varallo, the Musée Unterlinden in Colmar, the Dunhuang Caves in China, the etruscan tombs in Tarquinia and the MNAC in Barcelona, etc.. Restoration work is entrusted to carefully selected professionals and supervised by relevant heritage authorities and the Foundation itself. This ensures full transparency, high-quality standards, and responsible use of funds throughout each step of the process. “To conserve means to listen to the voice of time and to transmit it discreetly to the future.” — Cesare Brandi
