About Jewish Scholastic Press Association
JSPA wants Jewishly educated young adults to find their place in America’s newsrooms, and to know that journalism is a field where they can meld their spiritual and secular identities together in service of tolerance, democratic values and all of their highest ideals. Thus we are committed to helping news media in Jewish high schools reach the highest standards, while offering a Jewish outlook on journalism to students in any school. The organization’s motto is Chapter 19, Verse 16, of Leviticus: "Do not go about as a talebearer among your people; do not stand idly by the blood of your neighbor; I am the Lord" — a template for journalism practiced with both courage and restraint, with scrupulous honesty and sensitivity, with attention to those who are suffering or endangered, and with an imperative to hold leaders truthfully accountable.
