About Karukinka

Karukinka is a non‑profit association dedicated to scientific and artistic expeditions in Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego and the sub‑Antarctic / Antarctic regions. Since 2014, we have been bringing together sailors, scientists, artists and Indigenous community members to explore, document and share the natural and cultural heritage of the southernmost worlds. Our projects combine human geography, ethnology, soundscapes, environmental research and artistic creation, with a strong commitment to Indigenous knowledge, low‑impact navigation and long‑term presence in the field. We work on: - Indigenous place names and memory in Tierra del Fuego and Cape Horn (Yagán, Selk’nam, Haush). - Soundscapes and acoustic environments, from traditional practices to contemporary ecological change. - Climate and environmental projects, including coverage and mediation. - Sharing articles about rights and justice for Indigenous coastal communities, e.g. Lafkenche Law, ECMPOs and UNOC3 debates. - Artistic and scientific residencies, public talks, exhibitions and educational resources. Karukinka has been supported by partners including Sonosax, Leica Store Paris, universities and cultural institutions, and is a laureate of the French Ministry of Culture’s “Mondes Nouveaux” program for the “Cap Nord – Cap Horn” expedition.
