About Kernex

Coding education hasn’t kept up with how software is actually built. Kernex started after years of frustration inside real university classrooms: slow platforms, unclear errors, clunky UIs, delayed feedback, and grading systems that failed both students and instructors. We saw students spending more time fighting tooling than learning, and instructors overwhelmed by manual grading, weak partial credit, and surface-level plagiarism checks. Students and instructors were pushed onto separate communication tools for assignment questions and updates, creating friction between discussion and the code itself. Faculty weren’t happy either—and neither were we. So we decided to rebuild the infrastructure. Kernex is a web-based coding platform designed specifically for university computer science courses. It combines a fast, browser-based development environment with intelligent grading, academic integrity tools, and real-time collaboration: bringing performance, clarity, and rigor into a single system. Students can write, run, and debug code instantly with cleaner error feedback and modern UX. Instructors gain rubric-aware grading, improved partial-credit analysis, and multi-layer integrity checks that go beyond basic plagiarism matching. Collaboration is built directly into the coding workflow. Through in-platform help rooms and live sandboxed sessions, students and instructors can work together in real time, mirroring how modern engineering teams actually operate. Our team is made up of student founders and developers who have lived this problem firsthand. We build Kernex not from assumptions, but from daily experience inside the classroom: working closely with faculty, iterating rapidly, and piloting directly in academic environments. Kernex isn’t just another classroom IDE. It’s the infrastructure layer for how coding is taught, assessed, and learned in higher education.
