About King John's House and Museum

King John's House is a small independent museum in the heart of Romsey, Hampshire, including a magnificent Grade 1 listed medieval hall set in a beautiful heritage garden, and a fascinating range of buildings from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. We have an 800 year history of people living and working on this site, and our buildings and collections vividly illustrate the story of Romsey, from medieval magnificence, through industrialisation and decline, to narrowly avoiding demolition as a slum in the early twentieth century. Following a significant fire in February 2025, the museum is currently closed but the volunteer-run gardens are open and we are serving cakes and coffee there daily. We are looking forward to opening our new cafe at 13 Church Street in July.
