About Kings County Tennis League
Kings County Tennis League (KCTL) is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit providing free, year-round tennis and educational programming to nearly 900 youth living in and around six NYCHA housing developments. Each site operates as a neighborhood “tennis club” (e.g., Marcy Tennis Club), collectively forming the Kings County Tennis League. By delivering programming directly within public housing communities, KCTL removes the most common barriers to youth sports participation, including access to courts, transportation, cost, and coaching, while creating safe, consistent spaces for play and mentorship. Today, 93% of KCTL participants identify as BIPOC, and 85% live below or near the poverty line. KCTL’s model uses tennis as a tool for positive youth development, workforce exposure, and community building, addressing long-standing inequities in access to quality sports programming. As Brooklyn neighborhoods continue to change, KCTL remains committed to fostering inclusive, mixed-income communities where young people can thrive regardless of socioeconomic background.
