About Kit 4 Kenya
Founded in the summer of 2017, two 17 year old, British A level students, Tom Sweetnam & Archie Barrow decided to set up the charity "Kit 4 Kenya." Being passionate about sport - and football in particular, we soon came up with the idea of recycling sports kit and sending it to those less fortunate than ourselves in Africa. The problem was... how were we going to transport the kit abroad without incurring huge costs? As we were both involved in Edclub (a skyping platform encouraging pupils from schools around England to help educate Kenyan children), we contacted the organisation and found out that there was a huge need for football boots in particular, for the boys and their families in Kenya. What's more, Edclub could organize the transportation of the boots to ensure their safe arrival. This was when Kit 4 Kenya was born! However, due to the increase in the volume of kit we now send out, we now use a shipping company that send our kit via sea freight arriving in Kenya approximately 2 months after we have finished packing and labeling all our boxes. To date, we have successfully delivered £170,000 worth of football kit and just under 500 pairs of sports shoes to the children and slum football teams in Kenya. Whilst we're very proud of this figure, we see this as just the beginning.
